I don't smoke cigarettes and I have nothing against people who do. However, I do not want my 6 year old daughter breathing in someones second hand smoke, especially being in a car where it's not getting ventilated! It's none of my business if she's comfortable smoking in front of her child, but it pisses me off that she thought that was OK to do while my child was in her care, without asking me. Yeah, being around cigarette smoke once or twice isn't going to harm my daughter, but I still don't think it was appropriate for her to do.
This would make you mad too, right?

My daughter takes a dance class with her friend and I rotate with the friend's mom taking/picking the girls up at class. So, last night my daughter comes
home and she smelled a little like smoke! I asked her why and she said in the car her friend's mom was smoking.

I would be very mad...where I live I think that is actually against the law to smoke in a car with anyone under the of 16.

Totally inappropriate!! You don't need your daughter exposed to second hand smoke and coming home smelling like shit. Call the other mom and tell her NOT
to smoke around your child.

NOT cool. You definitely do not smoke in front of other people's kids. Smoking in front of your own is bad enough, but that is totally wrong.

Absolutely. I'd even probably call the mom tonight and tell her that you're concerned because your daughter came home smelling like smoke last night..
and could she please not smoke while your daughter is in her car. Be nice about it, unless you want to drive your daughter every day, instead of doing carpool.

Yeah, I am going to call her tonight. I'm not even sure I want to still carpool with her, because I don't think I even feel comfortable with her
driving my daughter. I can't understand what kinda person would do that?

She's clearly in the wrong! Definitely give her a call and express your concerns.

I'd call her and ask her to please wait until she drops your daughter off before she starts smoking.

yeah, i don't know if i'd be mad, especially if it's never been an issue before- but i would definitely give her a call and be like, 'hey,
would you mind not smoking while my kid is in the car? it's not something i really want her exposed to. i really appreciate you understanding.'

I just got off the phone with her and she was really apologetic, but she acted like it wasn't a big deal at all. I feel really bad for her daughter if this
is a normal occurence...I mean, it was a ten minute car ride and she couldn't wait to get home?

Fuck that, I'd be LIVID. I despise parents who smoke around their children. If it wasn't a problem, I'd just drive my kid myself.

I would be incredibly pissed off. Then again I get mad when people are smoking by the doors of stores and I have to go through a cloud of smoke with my kids
just to get in or out.

I'm not sure if that is a law here in PA, if it's not, it should be. I don't get who would want to subject their kids to that.

I would be pretty mad too, and you should absolutely bring it up to her. If she doesn't quit smoking near your child I'd for sure stop carpooling with
her.
