I want to take my fiance's last name when we get married. But I also want to retain my family name for business, because that is the name that everyone
recognizes for my dad's business. I was wondering if I could use a hyphenated last name for work and just my husband's name for everything else. I
don't want our kids to have hyphenated last names.

On applications, isn't there a spot for your maiden name?
I don't like having a hyphenated last name. Everyone thinks the first part of my last name is my middle name and people always spell it wrong. It's
obnoxious. Edit: And everyone thinks I'm married, too. I have to tell them that I was born with a hyphenated last name.

My maiden name is 12 letters long, so hyphenating that with my married name was a no go.
Isn't it possible to use your maiden name for business purposes only but have your actual name as your married name? |

I don't know, hyphenated names don't bother me. What's wrong with keeping your own name and recognizing your husband's as well?

I find them pretentious, unless there's a decent reason for having one.

I thought I wanted a hyphenated last name, but I may just end up making it my middle name instead. I'd want my children to have my maiden name somewhere
though.

my identity isn't in my name, so i wouldn't hang on to who i "was" by hyphenating it with my married name.
there's a chance that if his name were really wild, i'd keep my own name, though. lol |

My mom hyphenated her name and kept it that way after the divorce so she would have the same name as my my brother and I. Personally I don't plan on
hyphenating mine if and when I get married because I hate my last name.
