my cousin was born a redhead. Dark red, not a flaming red, but still a damn near impossible to replicate. she's 16 now and her mom lets her dye her hair.
our entire family is furious because its a very distinct hair color to have, and we would never let our child dye their hair if it was a rare hair color like
that.
what do you guys think? |

I think telling a 16 year old that she can't dye her hair will just make her want to do it even more.

If my 16 year old daughter wanted to dye her hair, I'd let her dye her hair. If she doesn't like it, she doesn't like it
. Not much I can do
about that.

Well, it's her hair. If other girls in her family were allowed to dye their hair at 16, then it's not really fair to not let her dye her hair just
because she has a unique hair color. Just because it's a hard color to replicate doesn't mean she likes it. If it is as pretty as you say, when she
gets older she'll probably appreciate it and leave it alone.

It's hair...it'll continue to grow back over and over again. It's not like it will disappear forever once she dyes it another color.
I think it's silly to get so upset over it. My grandmother/aunts/uncles flipped out when I started dyeing my hair dark brown (it's light-medium blond naturally). They said it wasn't right, since I'm the only natural blond in the family, and my hair color is just like my late grandfathers. They made idiots out of themselves over it.

I'm sorry, but that's a stupid reason to not let your child dye their hair, IMO.

I would never stop my 16 year old from coloring her hair if she really wanted to. Even in a situation like that. I would make sure she knew what she was doing
by explaining how rare of a color she has, but if she still wanted to I'd let her make the decision. It's not like she can't grow it out in the
future if she wants her natural haircolor back.
When she turns 18 she can do whatever the hell she wants and will probably do it anyway. I don't see it being that big of a deal. I think 16 is old enough to understand what she is doing and to make a choice like that if she wanted to. It's HER hair. |

She's 16 and her parents say it's okay, so I don't think it's anyone else's business.

Why does your family care what her mother lets her do? If she wants to dye her hair then that's really nobody else's business. They can say they
don't agree with the decision or whatever, but to be "furious" over it? That's really weird and dumb.

She obviously wants to color her hair and she's old enough to make that decision. It's none of your business what she does with it so please go be
furious over something else.

I don't know. I think almost everyone looks better as a redhead.

Well, how would you feel if your family was furious over a decision you made about your hair or body? When it comes down to it, it's her decision. It's
nice she has a mom that lets her make her own decisions without trying to force her to be the way others want her to be.
Families can be close and still let each member make their own decisions, as long as those decisions aren't hurting other people. Changing her hair color really ISN'T hurting anyone. |
