I always pay my bills on time, in full.... I just got my latest bill and there's a $30 late fee. I know I paid online the day it was due.... but,
supposedly it was 10 minutes after the 'deadline' to post that day. They refuse to waive the late fee. Why are they punishing customers who pay on
time for years... This is ridiculous.

Call up and threaten to cancel the card. That often will get them to act right.

On top of the $29 late fee, they are charging me $1.31 finance charge. WTF IS THAT EVEN FOR?!
I'm so mad. |

Yep, I'd transfer the balance and cancel the card. Fuck that shit.
Got to add another bank to never do business with now. Bank of America and now Chase. |

Did you tell the person you wanted to speak to a supervisor? That's what I would have done.
Things like that is the reason that I'm so done with credit cards. They're nothing but trouble. |

YES! I swear this is dejavu! I transferred my balance and called Chase to make sure that all I had left on my account was that late fee. I said "Ok, so when I send my payment tomorrow of 39$ that's it right? I'll never have to give you any of my money again?" and they said "Yeah your balance is just the 39$ late fee." SURE ENOUGH, the next month after I paid my late fee, I got a bill for 2.31 or something for a freakin' finance charge. I cannot tell you how mad I am just typing this story again! |

They jacked our interest rate up from 7% to 22% FOR. NO. REASON. We had been with them for years and I had not one single late payment. I called and complained
and was told that unfortunately, since so many people were defaulting on their CC debt, more reliable customers were being penalized to make up for the loss.
Um, no. I closed the account and switched the balance (which was only $1500 or so) to a different card. Chase can fuck off.

HSBC is a bitch. They moved the payment due date up by a few days. Which wouldn't be a big deal if I didn't have my payments set to automatically
deduct from bank account on certain dates. I randomly glanced at a bill the other day and saw the late fee and realized what was happening.

tackyblueeyeshadow wrote:My understanding is that all of the major credit card companies are doing this but it's due to a new law that goes into effect in Feb 2010 (which, ironically enough, was supposed to help consumers not hurt them). I have Discover, Chase, Capital One and Citibank and all of them sent notices that they will be raising my interest rate from a fixed 4.9%-6.9% (depending on the card) to a variable rate that is prime plus some astronomical percent that totals above 20%, and all of them explained it exactly as yours did. What card did you switch to that is not raising your interest rate? |

Don't cancel the card if you've had for a long time. It will only ruin your account. So, transfer the money out and don't use it. Also, call
corporate and tell them you were told to cancel the card when you wanted to work a reasonable plan.

The only card I have that hasn't raised rates without cause is the card that was issued by my credit union. Credit unions rock.
