I didn't go to the protests but they've been hiking up our fees all year. This would be the second hike this year and the third from a year ago.
It's not like were getting more classes offered or even extended university hours. On the contrary, classes are getting cut left and right. I need to hurry
up and graduate. I've considered not even going to get my masters'...might as well just gamble with a BS. It's funny how they push people to get
higher education yet education is the first thing to get cut from state funding.

Full time undergrad tuition at the 10 State System of Higher Education schools here is $3,605 a semester, and that includes all the fees (but not room and board). In fact, West Chester University is I believe #52 on Kiplinger's Top 100 best buys for public universities. We have some of the least expensive state schools in the country if you don't count Penn State, Pitt, and Temple. |

Ya know what. If colleges/universities have the galls to ask for that much then they should back it up by guaranteeing a job paying the same amt if not more
than the final tuition upon graduation. If not, then those students should get the difference back. It's only fair. How are you going to tell someone they
need a degree which places them in such debt that only being a brain surgeon or CEO will get them out of it. We have so many people walking around with college
degrees and making NO WHERE near enough to pay off their school loans before they retire. It's another form of price gouging except no one does anything
about it...well except for these students atleast.

It's not just UCs, the CSUs are fucked too.

The CSU's are messed up more than the UCs. I go to a UC and people from here went down to LA to protest and lots of classes were canceled. The CSUs are
increasing tuition costs AND cutting down on enrollment. One of the quarters(I can't remember which) won't allow any new students in.

If they're going to continue to cut the classes needed for someone to graduate, then they need to cut the amount of units needed to graduate, IMO. It's
not fair to make someone wait an extra year to graduate just because they don't have the classes available. So freakin' unfair.

icanseeyourboxers183 wrote: Exactly. I went to a UC and this is not the first time they have increased the tuition. I believe they last increased it in 2004. Then each individual campus' A.S. also charges different fees for stupid things. This increase means that if you go to a UC for four years you will end up paying an extra $10,000.00. It is so stupid because I went to one of these universities and graduated and I can't even find a good paying job. The ROI is pathetic. I don't see how they can justify an increase and put so many students in debt. |

Um, wait $10k a semester? That's what it's going to be raised to? I must have read that wrong.

Aren't UC schools on the quarter system? I go to DePaul and my quarter tuition is like 9,000 with fees?

I didn't know, I would have joined them. I go to a state school and am struggling to pay. I am sure the Gov was busy on vacation or busy driving his wife
around and our mayor is probably too busy screwing someone half his age to realize what went on this week

I just got a call from one of my friends at UC Davis, who told me that kids were being arrested and hauled out in vans. There's a police helicopter
circling the campus. Sacramento PD was being called out to help. This is ridiculous.

Nevermind, read wrong.
So it's costing about $40,000 for 4 years to attend a UC?

According to the article, it will cost more than that...
"sending the average annual education cost at a UC campus to more than $10,000" This combined with cost of living in CA and it's almost dead economy makes it very difficult to afford. I graduated from UC Davis this year and had to pull out loans worth $27,000 for this year of school (tuition, room and board) -- could barely get by even though I worked two part-time jobs while in school. I believe tuition went up 10% every year I was at Davis. My sister is at a UC right now, and I honestly don't think my parents can afford it in the long run.
