Any tips? I'm thinking of using small coke glasses for them.

There's a cool candle shop in Culver City and the owners show the customers how the candles are made. It's really messy, but very cool!

I remember making candles while in Girl Scouts. We used shot glasses, mason jars (the stouter kind) and whatever else we managed to find. I can't really
offer any tips, other than it was relatively easy, but I remember having a blast doing it.

Yup. I just use whatever cheap jars I can find (like I can get 3 or 4 8oz tumblers in a pack for 99 cents).
I don't buy the best wax but I've never had that many complaints. Jar wax is expensive while mold candle is cheaper. I usually mix a little together. I mostly use wax covered wicks as they stand up and you don't have to have something to wrap the wick around. I tend to buy the long wicks and then just cut them and half and add the bottom. It's not that much cheaper but it's cheaper. Liquid scents work so much better than block scents and I always add way more than what they tell me so it has a much better throw. This is where I get my scents: http://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/ and sometimes color. The wax and wicks I buy at Michaels. |

Oh and I used to use pots but I found it incredibly difficult to pour the wax out. I eventually invested in a candle making pot (I forget what exactly it's
called) but it's tall and has a spout. A pot with a spout should work just as well though.

JamieLoverGurl42 wrote:Depends. Scents vary and so do colors. If you ever want to get into molds, those vary as well. The site I linked earlier will give you a rough idea of what things cost. It's the cheapest place I've ever found online. |

Depends on how many candles you want to make.
I personally just break off whatever I think I'll need (there's a "science" to knowing but I'm too lazy to get out a scale and blah blah blah. lol.). If I have some much left over (which is always your goal), I just make a little jar and don't put a wick in it. I use it on my candle warmer at home. That also lets me know if the scent is strong enough or not. If not... well... time to start over. lol. |
