the rules... blah blah". It's so funny to me when people use the term "86" outside of the restaurant business. Cause that's the only
place I've ever heard it. It's just weird to me, I guess.

I hate posts like this. Why don't you just explain what "86" is in the initial post, so that the rest of us don't feel like idiots for not
knowing?

I don't work in the restaurant business, but I've heard 86 many times over the years. I didn't know it was a restaurant term... ?

I've never worked in the restaurant business and I've heard the term to 86 something.

Sorry. I thought it was universal. For exmaple, if someone doesn't want sour cream on their entree, you say 86 sour cream. It's another word for
"no" in terms of getting rid of something. If that makes sense.

To be honest, I don't know why we use it. No one ever explained it to me.

I love that commercial. It looks like everyone had fun while making the commercial. And just to make sure it's the one where they all dancing, right? And
yeah I have heard the term "86" something before. Outside the restaurant business.

I learned the term 86 in the restaurant business...I just assumed that they used 86 instead of no because 86 stands out more on the order screen than no does

I've heard it many times, and I've never worked in a restaurant. Didn't it come from the prohibition era?
ETA: Article 86 of the New York state liquor code defined the circumstances in which a bar patron should be refused service or "86ed". |

I never heard it in reference to a detail on an order like "no sour cream", only when the kitchen is out of something and it's
"86'd" from the menu.

Like ok how are we supposed to know who sally is and what happened to them that makes them so poor and you so sad? |
