to an international student. Don't they realize he just wants citizenship? Yes, there are a few couples I know who had been dating for years and were so in
love and then got married. But I'm seeing so many who have gotten married to guys after they dated them less than a semester. One guy I know, he
doesn't even like his wife but she's so in love with him. He's also pretty well-off but they are "just scraping by" because he
doesn't want her to know how much he actually has. His parents are rich and he saved a lot of money because he worked on Wall Street for a year or two. I
find it hilarious.

I've never known or heard of a college girl who has married an international student. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but where the hell do you
live?

I don't have a single friend who did that. Where in the world did you go to school where this is common?
My parents had an immigration lawyer tell them it was obvious that my dad was just marrying my mom for the greencard. |

Yea I've never heard of this either, you make it seem like it's a super common thing.

umm i actually know two opposite situations. one girl married a guy in the army and moved to a different country to be with him (but he was an american
citizen). and another girl i know married a european exchange student and moved to europe to be with him....

There are like 3 a year at my school and I consider that a lot. The school is probably less than 3000 students. I go to school in the south and they tend to
get married younger here. They think that if you get married at 24 "Finally! I don't know what took you so long!"
The girls tend to be in the mindset that someone is finally going to take care of them. :/ |

Its not that easy anymore so perhaps theyre not really getting married for the citizenship.
You have to get engaged, then sponsor your fiance to come.
Its a more complicated procedure if you try to get them citizenship when theyre in the country already- sometimes they have to go back and wait years.

They are already students so they have the student visa. And then they can get that two-year extension or something, I heard. So they try to get married before
graduation. I've seriously been proposed to a couple times. I think my school is just pathetic.

Mostly the males. Venezuela, Nigeria, Trinidad, Colombia. Mostly poorer countries. It's probably their accents that get these girls hooked!

Don't they know that there are people that you can pay that will willingly do this for them? My mom did it.

Why pay someone when there are apparently college girls willing to do it for free?
And yeah, I've never heard of that happening either. I'm sure it does, though. Everyone thought I was marrying my now husband (who was in the Navy at the time) so he could get paid more and I could get free benefits. We really did (and do!) love each other, though. So maybe these international relationships aren't what they seem on the surface? |

Yeah, good point. Although I've heard it's much harder lately to get citizenship through marriage, though. I had a friend who married a Canadian girl
and they were going through sooo much trouble to get her citizenship. I feel like actually having a wedding and making it look more legit would help their
cases.
