I know a few guys that grew up with all women in the house. I think they are more feminine than say a guy that was raised in an all guy household. They aren't gay, but some people think they are because of this. Girls/women the same thing. If she was raised with Dad as her role model, she may like to work on cars or other traditional "male things" and people assume she wants to be a guy and likes girls. If the kid is gay, he/she is going to be gay if he/she was raised in a home with both parents, all women or all men. cuz its a proven fact that all gay guys are feminine and all lesbians like to work on trucks..

We're social creatures that live in communities, having a large number of adults not caring for their own young children benefits the group as a whole. We were hunters and gathers, but someone had to stay behind to watch and protect the children which is why we have grandparents. More than likely a gay adult didn't have children of their own, but they would help provide for their younger siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins. ETA: I also think it helped with exploration. And evolution can take a very long time. If being gay is not a sustainable trait, it will eventually disappear. It's not a matter of having an evolutionary PURPOSE, it's a matter of the trait surviving over time. And there's no reason to expect that it wouldn't, because straight parents produce gay children.

I hope that makes sense. It's a variation which naturally exists, IMO.

I'm talking in the context of us being social creatures where family units and community is a key component to our survival. Also it's been shown that evolution can happen in a relatively rapid time. Some of the best proof of evolution is the instances where it's really rapid! So cool.

Evolution occurs due to random genetic mutations. Like someone else said, sometimes these mutations are beneficial and sometimes not. And like Jenna said, even if homsexuality isn't beneficial to a species' survival, it will continue because straight parents can have gay children.
