I have a sister who is as light as my daughter But, she (my daughter) is black and white. "Where are you from?" Me: I'm from here. I mean what country. Are you Nigerian? Me: No. I'm American. I was born here. (Thinking: Can I have my damn donuts now?) This is the conversation I had with the cashier at Dunkin' Donuts tonight.

I get asked "Where you from?" all the time and it's annoying as hell. They're surprised I don't have an accent. When I tell them I'm from Canada, they always get confused, pause then ask "Well I meant, where you FROM? Like.. your people/parents?" or "There's Asians in Canada?!!" I dont mind their interest, but most of the time, there is no introduction or beginning to the conversation. However, their interest can turn into something inappropriate or offensive.
