One time we had a waitress who was amazing. It was her first day and she was very friendly. We ended up tipping her $20. A different waitress collected the
bill. Once our waitress came back to the table, we told her that we tipped her $20. She told us thank but since she was in training, the waitress who was
training her (the one who took the bill) gets all the tips. We were pissed that we just gave some random bitch $20.

Waiters and waitress' are all human and have good and bad days just like everyone else. I can only imagine the situation at this 'pub' probably got
out of hand with the party acting like rednecks and getting out of control. The people coming into the situation knew the policy of the restaurant and serving
a large crowd is not easy. I think the tip must have been skewed some how-22% is ridiculous in this situation, but I feel some parts of someone's story are
being interpreted/told the wrong way.

There was an article on CNN that had a bit more info. The manager had admitted that the couple had to wait an "unusually" long amount of time for
their food but the restaurant was extremely busy. He also said that he offered to comp some of their food but the couple doesn't recall that offer.
I'm wondering why he didn't just take money off their bill? And I doubt the couple would have refused if he actually offered. |

Tip in the first place is ridiculous cause they are just DOING THEIR JOBS. we shouldnt have to pay more. this practice needs to end. no where else in the world
does it. only the US. and for them to get arrested is even MORE ridiculous. i hope this pub goes out of business and gets a huge fine for having these two poor
college students go through this shit.

I get this was a shitty situation, and that they received horrible service and lied to about the amount of the gratuity, but this is not a green flag to alert
America to start tipping optionally.

We had that happen to us one time and we tried speaking with the manager, but he was being an ass as well, so we all deducted the automatic tip and left exact
change. I had a feeling her actions might have been racially motivated, but it was confirmed when we were leaving and the white female server had the nerve to
tell us she was married to a black man. Confirmed. Of course I shot her a look that could have killed and said, "So..? Good for you...we're not
black." Needless to say we filed formal complaints and haven't been back to that place.
