It drives me nuts! I have a couple of family members that very casually say this word and it offends me so much. I tell them if your going to use that word
please wait till I leave the room so I don't have to hear it. But of course they think it's funny that I would get upset. Anyone go through this also?

I've had roommates say it around me. It's uncomfortable.

My brother says it all the time. I don't really see the need for the word, and I actually don't like hearing it.

No. Definitely not. When my brother (who has autism) was much younger, someone taught him to say that - among other horrible things - at school and we had to
get him to stop and realize that those words were NOT okay. But since then, no, no one in my family ever uses that word.

My family does all the time. It bothers me to some degree.

I've heard extended family say it, but not my immediate family, and definitely none of my friends. I don't put up with that.

Not often. I heard an uncle say it once as a child and found it shocking. I've never liked that uncle much.

My husband's grandpa used to use it, but he died 12 years ago. Nobody in my family uses it.

No one in my mom's side of the family does. My step dad's family is racist, though. I choose to not be around them unless I'm forced to.

My family uses it, but we're black. A lot of non blacks haven't grasped the concept of why the african-american community uses it.

Not often. Usually it is referring to an unsavory person that is also black.
btw, I'm black. I refuse to use the word. And adding an "a" doesn't make it okay. www.abolishthenword.com |
