$94.20
And it's apparently too late. I don't think they would let me back if I even tried |

They are charging you more than the price of the book? This is like Seinfeld.

LOL. Damn. How long have you had the book?
Usually, we just let people buy another book and pay a 'processing fee' and be done with it. |

I guess their late fees are 75 cents a day or something. I should've read the fine print.

I just got an email notifying me of my overdue book. It would have been on time, except, when I went online to renew it, one of my two books was put on hold
by someone, so it didn't go through. How annoying. It's not even a good book!! So, now it's like 2 weeks late and I'm trying to summon up the
energy to take a 40 min train ride just to return 2 books. How annoying.
I can't believe they're charging you that much, though. wow. |

They should not be able to charge you more than the price of the book. Somehow I doubt the book was $94. Go in and talk to them.

I just called the library and the guy said as soon as I make a payment, no matter how much it is, it renews to another 120 days before it's reported to an
agency.
Whew. That's not so bad then. Then he offered to suspend my account for 90 or 180 days so I can't repeat the same problem |

Ack! This has happened to me numerous times during my academic career. I always brought the book back, explained that I couldn't afford the
astronomical fees and then negotiated a more reasonable late fee. I think it was actually pretty standard at my school that if you asked for the fine to be
lowered, the page/librarian would have mercy on you and lower it, especially if you were charged for a lost book but wound up returning it!

My sister did the same thing, but she somehow managed to get $283 worth of fines.
But yeah, that's so lame! It's ridiculous that a library is charging $94.20 for a book. |

I once got away with bringing back the VERY late book, and apologizing, telling them that I and moved, and the book had been packed away in storage and
forgotten. They let me off with a $15 fine and a ''Well, don't let it happen again!'' warning.

They were charging my brother 300+ dollars one time for 2 late books he kept over the summer. Dumb on his part, but, seriously. He took them back, begged for
mercy, and they lowered the late fee to 100 dollars.

I've woved to stop going to libraries since it always ends up costing me more than just buying the bock because of the late fees.

I know for a fact that libraries send out several notices before they go to collection and you obviously got the other warnings or you wouldn't have gotten
the collection notice. I know it sucks for you that the fine is so high but the collection fee obviously includes late fees, the cost of the book you
didn't bother to return, and their costs to continually send you warnings and postage. If everyone felt they could just check out a book from the library
then keep it, then there wouldn't be many books left in the library for everyone else to enjoy. But I'd still attempt to go down to the library with
the book and apologize and see what you could do to cancel the collection. It's not worth the black mark on your credit.
