That episode was on re aired recently in the past month. I remember watching it, and he's lost a lot of weight since the show. I agree about Ty being so
effing annoying.

I hate the sappiness of this show. As soon as it comes on I turn it off. The overenthusiastic Ty and the crying and sappy feel bad for them stories. Ugh. Yeah
it's sad but it's just so over the top. The theme rooms are ridiculous. Even if they could keep their houses, a kid doesn't stay they same age
forever..

I thought it was pretty well known that Ty is only there just to tape his parts and doesn't do anything else.

I really thought they got the house with this. How can they expect a poor family to afford a high mortgage? Show is sappy...Nothing but a ploy for Sears and
all the other advertising sponsors.

Mike Holmes and Holmes on Homes/Holmes Inspection are what EHM should be.
The people who dislike Ty & Co. should really give his shows a try, if they haven't before. |

That's like Oprah giving those people cars and it was a hassle for them because they couldn't afford the taxes and stuff.
One of the things that drive me crazy about this show, are the theme rooms. If one of the kids just happens to mention that they like something, they end up with a room that is totally based entirely on that ONE thing. Soccer, ballet, computers, cats, whatever- they had better REALLY like it, because they're going to be sleeping in a rather gaudy shrine to it for the next 10 years. YES!!!!! Every damn time I watch that show that drives me INSANE!!!!! |

There was a show taped here in Buffalo and it's been extended to two hours. Not only did they do the one house, they sided a bunch of other houses in the
neighborhood and gave everyone new driveways and whatnot. I'm interested to see how the neighborhood lasts. It's in a HORRIBLE part of town.

So wait... are you guys saying the show gives them this new/improved house with a mortgage for the value? I read the original article and it sounded like he
had to pay off his previously existing mortgage plus the home equity loan he got... nothing about a new mortgage on the Makeover house....

Oh man, these stories make me sad. Especially after watching Sunday's episode with the handicapped lady who had a youth development center in her home. I
hope she doesn't get screwed over.

I always thought that the family got a house free and clear with no mortgage.

Someone should put a stop to the disappointing work EHM is doing.

Sacarome wrote:It depends on the situations. Many of these people, however, take out home equity loans on the value of the home and then they have a mortgage from that. That's really their own fault and I have little sympathy for such stupidity. The taxes are what cause a huge issue here though. Property taxes skyrocket on families that don't have much. Even with the house here..,it's in a crappy neighborhood. How long is it really going to be looking nice? It looks like a sore thumb which is why they fixed the houses around it too. |

This story confuses me. He purchased the home ten years ago for 186,700 and took out an equity line on the house for 140,000 since the remodel five years ago.
Why is the balance he owes now 770,000? That couldn't possibly be in back taxes for just five years worth.

I always wonder if they have a clause in the show contract that the family is not allowed to sell the house for a certain period of time once it is built. If I
was one of these families (at least when the economy was good) and I knew what the property taxes would be on this new house once it was built, I'd try to
sell it and get into a nice than original house with the money from that sale.
