Most of the American accents are easier to comprehend that British and other accents, imho.

I just asked this question last week by my American friends. It depends on the region. I think Southern, Boston and New York accents are pretty cool because they're quite different. The 'standard' American accent I don't really like... well it's not that I don't like them, I'm neither here nor there with them.
Probably too much American tv maybe, I'm just not fussed about it and it doesn't sound unique. |

In my opinion American accents can get a bit nasally. That's my experience anyway.

I adore the American accent, and cannot STAND hearing our Australian accents when I've just heard the American one. Like, those movies where theres just a random Australian amongst Americans.

Generally I don't think people in London are strongly attracted to the American accent because it's so common to hear it, but some people like it.

Certain ones, some are kind of grating on the ears

I am living in Madrid, and was talking to someone from Scotland a few months ago. We had just started our conversation, when he asked me "So what part of Southern California are you from?"...
I had never said where I lived He said I talk just like the people on TV, and that my accent didn't sound Southern or Northern, so he just figured California. He was right, but still that was just weird to me! |

It's my least favourite accent. At least of all the accents I know. My English teacher once described it as bubblegum-ish, meaning people sound like they chew bubblegum whilespeaking.
I just feel like it's too... un-special and certain accents even grate on my nerves.

I like Australian, English, Scottish. I have heard a couple people from England say that they think Americans sound like hicks.

I am in MD and people in PA sound different, Boston, the south, some parts of Louisiana sound different than other parts, western us, New York etc. We were on vacation and started talking to some people. We talked a while and I ask them where in New Jersey they were from. |

I'm Scottish...and am a sucker for Southern American accents. Also like NYC broad accents. But in general the general "american accent" is nice. Irish is definitely my favourite though
I think depending on where you live you notice different accents more - there are such a huge number of variations all over the UK whereas a foreign person might not realise that. Just like I wouldn't be able to tell the difference between...for example.....Southern and Northern France or something!

I am from Toronto, but when I was living in Scotland for a while I was asked if I was Australian so apparantly some people in Scotland think Canadian accents sound Australian
