I am religiously checking the weather for both locations. How much snow does it take to cause delays/closures at the airport?

Ugh! I'm flying from LAX to DC on Wednesday night and have a layover in Chicago.

Check the weather report. It is not the amount of snow, but the blowing snow and accumulations.

It doesn't seem like it will be bad in Chicago. Keep checking though.

You probably won't be able to fly into DC. Which airport? Dulles would be better than BWI.

I'm flying into Reagan National. My worst fear is getting stuck in Chicago if they shut DC down again.
Thanks for your input. I'm extra nervous because I planned this big trip for my husband (who's never been to DC and absolutely loves US History) and I would hate for it to get ruined. |

What airline are you flying? Lots of flights to DC are already cancelled for today and tomorrow, but most of the airlines are letting people change their flights for free even if yours hasn't been cancelled yet.

Honestly, I would call United to see if you can change it. It's probably going to be cancelled if it hasn't already, so the sooner you change it, the better chance you will have of getting another flight at a time that works for you. My flight to DC for tomorrow has already been cancelled.

I think the snow storm is supposed to be over by tomorrow morning. You should be fine as far as flying into Chicago is concerned. Not sure about DC though...

I'm flying United to NYC Thursday, but have a layover in DC (IAD). Do you think there is a chance that my flight to DC could be canceled?

This is such a nightmare. As I said earlier, I truly do appreciate all your input.

Highly likely to be canceled, but keep checking with your airline. US Air and Southwest have canceled all flights for tomorrow in and out of PHL.

I just called United and they said my flight has not been canceled and they're optimistic that it will clear up and I'll be okay by tomorrow night (my flight leaves at 11:30 PM). They said that in the event it does get canceled, that they'll do their best to reschedule as soon as possible.
What's a good site to check cancellations? United's website is not very intuitive. |

Check the airport you're flying into's website. But really, the airline directly is the best source.

I know this sucks to say, but if it's possible, I would try to reschedule. Getting around DC is going to be a mess for a while. I know they are calling for another 12-16 inches tonight into tomorrow...

Chicago is a mess right now too. Most flights here have been canceled.

Yeah, I would suggest rescheduling. You aren't going to have any fun in DC right now. It's a mess.

I'll wait until tomorrow before I consider rescheduling. The other pickle is that while our flight may be changeable, our hotel is non-refundable (early booking deal). When I booked this trip last September, weather didn't even cross my mind (must be the naive So Cal weather mentality).
If I do make it to DC, do you think by this weekend tourist attractions would start opening back up or do you think they'll be out of commission for awhile? |
