Sounds like what I had when I got my temporary crown.

I have the same thing. I went to the dentist and they said stress was making me clench my jaw too tight or bite down on my teeth in a weird way that was
causing them to become reallllly sensitive. So they did a white mold of my teeth and made a bite guard for me to wear at night. Maybe that was it? I'm not
sure but it sounds similar to what my dentist gave me/put on my teeth!

OceanEyes302 wrote:It's IRM. It's an "Intermediate restorative material." Basically, it's a temporary filling. It has eugenol in it (which is "oil of cloves"), that has a soothing affect on your pulp. However, to the OP, I don't know why she'd put that there for "dentin hypersensitivity," which is what it sounds like you have (i.e. the receding gums). She put it on the chewing surface of your teeth, right? Sensitivity from receeding gums would affect either the cheek or the tongue side of your tooth.

I didn't go. I didn't want that crap on my teeth. It looks really ugly and my dad said it didn't help his sensitivity much at all. I'm just using Sensodyne right now and brushing differently.

Was it just for tooth sensitivity or for receding gums as well?

Do you know if you clench or grind your teeth?

Always go for a second opinion before having anything done that you're not comfortable with. You would think all dentists think alike, but no, some are money whores and others are more professional. One colleague went to a dentist who told her she had to have some things done to her gum, and it would cost her thousands of dollar, and she should start NOW!! She followed my advice and the 2nd dentist told her it wasn't that bad, and had a much cheaper treatment.
One time, my dentist found 7 cavities...I went to another dentist who also found 7 cavities...only one being the same for both dentists!!! I hate dentists
