Paul Pierce basically faked an injury. He got carried off the court and then rolled to the locker room in a wheelchair. Then like 5 minutes later he came out
running.

I highly doubt he had any input in the monologue. He just sang it like he was told.

But wouldn't the lyrics be looked over before he performs it? Wouldn't they have caught that?

Why would they catch it if they wrote it?
And it's possible be didn't realize how racist it was. I had never heard the term until JJB. |

ETA,
Also in the 70s/80s it must have been acceptable because I'm 96% certain that phrase was used on the Dukes of Hazzard...

If he did know I think he most likely thought he could get away with it because it was said in jest or because it was written for him. So if someone else
deemed it okay then it must be.

Alicia wrote:If it was was written by the writing staff, the script was around for a while and rehearsed a few times. Someone should have realized that it would be a problem. Either Justin did some improv and threw it in himself or someone was like "Fuck it. We're going to have him say that shit anyway." There's no way that no one who read the script, teleprompter, or heard/watched rehearsal didn't notice something was wrong, if it was a planned joke. Now, if Justin came up with it onthe spot, that's another story. |
