Is there a way you can add a "search by character" feature? (like NF.com has). Because right now its a bitch to search for stories about a particular
person, unless I'm a total idiot

Sigh. I think I get it. I think. Goddamn, I picked a fine time to start re-writing fanfic. |

i'll look into modifing the Titles page, its one of those new features that comes with the 3.0 version
.... but for now you could use the Advanced
Search under the Search link?
btw i use Core FTP LE ... you can google it to see where you can download it. its really simple. |

Theres no characters listed under the advanced search, just a blank box
|

you have to select a category first

Vikki, thanks! I downloaded FTP Classic and yeah I can't figure out how or if it'll even let me edit. I'm technologically inept.

how's your html coding? I'm uploading Microsoft Frontpage right now and will post a download link here - http://jjb.yuku.com/topic/372483 when its ready. It will help TONS until you get better.

Um, rusty at best. I used to be pretty decent at it, but I was 15 then and that was a good 7 years ago.
But I will check out the link, and I appreciate the help TONS.

Vikki, I'm registering now and uh, just wondering, what's a beta-reader? Is that just proofreading/editing shit for others?
|
|||
vikkikirky |
|||
|
yes that's exactly what a beta is.... if authors need one and see that you've selected yes, they may contact you.

So Vikki, I read what you wrote on NF.net but I just want to be sure that I understand what's going on. We have to move all of our stories over to NF.net
now?

Honest question, wouldn't it just be easier to have the old archive as read only and hosted on NF.com? It seems like a hell of a lot more trouble to make
everyone pack up and move, and in the process losing all their reviews.

I don't wanna be a whiner or anything but this kinda sucks. Why can't they just stay seperate? I have a lot of my reviews saved but this also resets
all the reads the stories have as well as the standing in the top tens. We would also lose all of the stories we have favorited and now we'll have to go
all through them on nf.net and find them again.
I just think its a lot of work for everyone when we can just keep them both open. Thats just my opinion. |

yes i think everyone should start moving NOW ... as to a certain date, that would be up to Tia. I sent her an email and when I hear back from her I'll let
everyone know when the "deadline" is.
i dont know if it'll be two weeks (a week and 1/2 now) as she posted on n-f.com or not. But if you're able to I would at least save your work to your home computer so you can post to nf.net whenever, at your own convience. I know I didn't go into specifics... but we thought about keeping them both open on nf.net, like i already explained. Much would go into doing so and at the end you still have an archive, a place to post your stories, stories to read, and memebers to give you reviews. N-F.com started off worse than this, and yes its my fault n-f.com even HAD to open, and I am sorry you have to go through ALL the hassle of reposting your stories and reseting your read count. All i can say is that I promise this will be the last time anyone will be bothered about moving/posting/saving their stories.

Love Wrapped Around My Finger wrote:I totally agree. It just doesn't seem right to move from the archive everyone is currently using, logically it should be the other way around. But yeah I'm going to pissed to lose all my favorites. And are you planning on emailing ALL the authors on the archive? (since not everyone has been active lately) I hope so, especially if theres not a long period of time before the "change" happens, this is how stories get lost.

Can we get the read numbers back so we can see how many times our stories have been "read"?

nf.net has twice as many stories, twice as many reviews, and A LOT more inactive authors.
There's no way to for us to move that archive into the n-f.com archive. yes its an inconvience for everyone but in the end of it all... its our best bet. I've emailed Tia about contacting all the authors on her archive. I even mentioned that if she doesn't have the time she could give admin privs to Nikki or Brittany and they could send the email out. I don't want any stories to be lost and I'm positive Tia doesnt either.
