I had a grad student ask 'Are you okay?' right before my last semester; she said many undergrads go through depression during the transition. I kinda understand what she meant now

Did you already have a job/was is within your major? Did/do you have college debt? Where'd you live/move to?

I didn't get a full time job. I stayed at home and subbed for a year, so I could save the most money possible to pay off my huge student loan.

I got a research fellowship and moved to Panama to work there, and have since gotten another full time (well, more than full time...) job doing research at the
National Cancer Institute. Luckily I didn't have debt, though these are "educational programs" that would allow me to defer loans longer if I did
have them.

I had a horrible job while I was still in school, which paid the rent, but it ended the July after I graduated. But then I got a job with Coke through someone
I went to school with, and it was fun, although it had nothing to do with my major. Then I was transferred and the job sucked, so I quit, and two years later,
my depression has begun.

I was one of the lucky ones, I was offered a job from one of the designer mentors and yes I did have a student loan to pay back. But I wasn't making very
much money to start so my parents continued to help me, that was 17 yrs ago.

After undergrad, I had job about 2-3 weeks after graduating (I graduated a semester early) - it was in my field/related to major. I then went to grad school
that fall (after a summer internship in DC). After grad school, I had a job within about a month (I moved from NYC where I went to grad school to DC), but it
wasn't necessarily an ideal job - sorta related to my field/major. (It was over a year later before I landed an ideal job.) I didn't have any debt
after undergrad, but I did after grad school (and still do). For me, I would say the whole post-graduation transition depression thing came after graduating
from grad school. It was mostly prevalent the first couple of month after graduating, but I would say it lasted over year until I landed the job that was 100%
related to my major and was 100% what I wanted to do.

Going sweet. I have a job in my field, no debt, living in a one bedroom apartment and pay my own bills. Guess I'm a lucky one

Not that I am happy for your misfortunes. But I just graduated from law school. I have no job and my loans are coming due in November/December. I'm glad
I'm not alone. I'm not depressed yet. I'm still optimistic. But I think if I don't have a job in the next few months I will be depressed.

I moved from Cleveland to Las Vegas. I had a part-time job while waiting for my "real world" job. I started working on my MS degree online through
University of Florida. I did a lot of reading and research to make sure the field I was getting into was what I wanted. My plans for life completely changed my
junior year of college so I was searching for the right path.
My debt is in school loans and because I'm working on my MS those all were deferred. So I don't have to worry about those. I graduated May 2007 and in September I'm FINALLY starting my new job in the field I kind of studied in. I'm excited, thrilled, nervous, and relieved. It was a year in the works and it's all finally coming together. Also just bought a house. My life is looking pretty good right now

The first two years were horrible. I had a job that wasn't in my field. My student loans had to be paid, and I was just worn out. I finally decided to go
back to school for my MBA, and right after that, I got my job related to what I studied in school.

I didn't have any debt coming out of undergrad, but I also didn't know what I wanted to be/do. I've been working at a low-paying job because it has
benefits. I recently moved into an apartment. I have some bigger aspirations and I've been considering those more seriously now as I don't want to be
stuck forever. I actually want to do something I love. But it's hard to stay happy. I thought my life would be different at this point.

I was a business major but I wasn't required to have an internship. About a year before I was supposed to graduate I got a job working part-time for a
company related to my major. When I graduated I was hired on full-time and stayed with the company for almost 10 years then I decided to change jobs and
industries. I didn't have any debt when I graduated and I don't recall feeling depressed. I suspect the post-graduation depression could be related to
the college loan debt you have to pay off. Actually any major debt at any age can be depressing.

I had a job interview for a position at the agency I interned at, but when I graduated, I hadn't heard anything. I was unemployed for two weeks then I got
the job. It was THE best two weeks of my life. No job, no school, I got a chance to deflate and just do what I wanted to do. But I was SO thankful to get the
job and start my career. I didn't have any debt. I paid my last semester out of pocket, because I refused to get a loan. Besides a a car note and another
investment I'm paying on, I don't have any debt. It's weird not registering for classes though. It was my life for five years.

Pretty good. Graduated in may 07, took a couple months off to relax, didn't start job hunting till late Julyish. Went on two interviews and got a job in a
job related to my field somewhat in September (permanent sub for the school so I was there everyday). Then in April of this year they officially hired me full
time, perm. in special ed which is what I wanted. But I was also so done with school, I just wanted to get back home with my family and my town and my friends.
I also live at home which is pretty damn awesome

It's sucked, MAJORLY. I wish I had taken more advantage of the career fairs/etc that came to campus. I've been out for 3 fucking months and I just NOW
have a job interview for tomorrow. And it's totally not in my field. I have a BA in French and the interview is for a car dealership. Right now, I just
need money so I don't really care what I do but still, it sucks to have done all that work and have nothing to show for it.
It also sucks because I had to move back home and only 2 of my close buddies are around. My social life is at a standstill. I hate "the real world" so much. |

I've only been out 3 months, but it's going really well so far. I knew it would be hard getting a job with just a bachelor's of history, so I
applied for and got a great job at the university, working for the dean's office of one of the colleges. The university pays for 6 credit hours per
semester, including summers, so I'm going to start my masters degree in January. I'm very excited about it! I've also gotten married, and I'm
pretty much loving life.
