It was okay. I think some scenes were waaaaaaaaay too long. Anne did a fantastic job though.

I think it's her best performance by far. Whether she deserves the Oscar nomination or not is a another topic.

The extended music scenes and some of the self-indulgent quirkiness were a little hard to sit through but minus that, it was a really well-acted film. Anne
wasn't really a stunning revelation to me, but she did really well and I felt for her character. I really didn't like the whole dish-off scene, it was
really annoying to me until the dad found Ethan's plate, so I guess that was the purpose of it.

I'm watching it right now and so far I'm incredibly bored.

Me either, which bummed me out because I was so looking forward to it. There were parts that I liked, but overall, it went on too long and tried too hard. The
acting was good, at least.

I actually really like this movie. I was kind of surprised, but I was interested the entire time. I loved it.

this movie feels like the most pointless movie ever. I mean, they made us watch a (long) scene about people loading the dishwasher?

ItsMeCass wrote:Seriously. I'm not even kidding when I say that if I had to choose between watching that movie again or watching paint dry...I'd choose watching paint dry. Because, to me, that would be more exciting than this movie was. When they were giving the toasts at the wedding, I was bored to tears because it was like I was ACTUALLY AT A WEDDING and yet I didn't know the bride or groom. And the dishwasher scene was ridiculously long. After the first two minutes I was like "Okay...this scene *has* to be over now....right???!?" And yet it was only just beginning.... |

Just got this from Netflix and had to search for a post to make sure I wasn't totally missing something. (I mean, besides the last two hours of my life.)
I'm so irritated that I had to sit through that crap that I literally am angry at the movie. I ended up fwding through a bunch of scenes that would. not. end. I saw
through most of the wedding toasts before I realized I hadn't been that bored since the last time I was actually a guest at a similar event. It was bad
enough that I had to be in the audience for the indulgent "rehearsal" montage of music, but then the toasts too? I needed a drink after
that!
And so, I decided shortly before the end of that scene (like, right after Anne did her monologue) that I wasn't going to sit through any more of those scenes - which meant I fwded through at least three more segments (the dish scene up until Ethan's plate, most of the actual wedding, and then almost the entire reception). Honestly. It was like a documentary. Worse yet, it was like watching home videos of someone's dysfunctional family...the acting was good in parts, but there was so much NOISE in the rest of it that I didn't even care. *sigh* Ok, thanks for the venting session.
