Posts: 7933 (04/23/2009 10:55 AM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts	She's usually the healthiest cat in the world, and she only throws up like twice a year. Well, for the past week, if I give her more than a small amount of food at a time, she throws it up. Today she's throwing up any amount of food. She's acting totally normal aside from that, but I'm getting really worried! She has a vet appt. at 3 today. Wish us luck! Update: She's still at the vet right now. The doctor did an x-ray and said she's REALLY full of feces, so they're doing an enema. Then she's going to be on stool softeners and laxatives for a few days. I'm just worried b/c they're using a new x-ray system so she wasn't completely sure what she was looking at on the x-ray. She's not my usual vet, so I don't trust her. And she kept telling me stories about pets who came in with obstructions and DIED! I'm so freaked out right now. Edited By: MegaBabe717 04/23/2009 4:57 PM. Edited 1 time.

Posts: 17923 (04/23/2009 11:03 AM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts	Yeah, you really should be glad you missed it! Maybe, hopefully it's a quick fix. My cat gets an upset stomach every once in a while and then is perfectly fine after a few days. Keep us updated once you get back from the vet though.

I'm worried because she ate these strings like a month ago, and they said with those to watch and wait, and if she was eating and pooping okay then it was fine and they would pass. Well, I never saw anything in her poo, so I assumed they just broke down and came out. But the x-ray looked like they could still be in there...this is where the doctor couldn't read the x-ray. So I'm scared that even with this stuff they might not come out and then this could get really serious really fast.

They told me he had somthing called mega colen and they gave him enemas, medication to take at home, etc but he never really improved and no matter what we did it just delveloped into more problems. But then again our Vet here sucks and deserves to be shut down ..... Im sure your kitty will be okay !

They become so constipated that you need to physically dig out all the stool under anesthetic. Sometimes even part of the colon needs to be removed. Having strings in her gut is very different. And they won't show up on an x-ray obviously, so it isn't her fault she can't say for sure. With an x-ray you can only see things that are radio opaque for sure, like if she swallowed a nickle or something. But if it's been a month and she seems to be in good shape I wouldn't be too worried if there were strings in there. They'd have to get them out surgically, but if they've been there a month and she's relatively okay, that's a good sign!

It is common for cats to get dehydrated in this situation, I've been through almost exactly the same thing. Like I said, best of luck to you guys! I hope kitty is fine.

The vet said to keep her in the bathroom with her litter box for a while in case she has "urgent" needs to use her litter box. She already ate a snack and took one of her pills and pooped. She's seemed normal in energy/temperament all along, so hopefully this is just some fluke thing. I'll be watching her like a hawk for a while though! Oh, and here's a picture:

She looks like she has a bit of calico in her but her eyes look nice and bright at this point so I guess all is well. Love her little socks on her front paws also. but with her swallowing string, reminds me of a cat my sister had years ago that was her baby. He was into eating wool and ended up getting so sick. Turned out it was all twisted into his intenstines!! They had to do several incisions to pull all the pieces out!! She figured it out when she first discovered a piece of wool hanging out of his butt!

Posts: 7946 (04/23/2009 6:44 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts	She ate yarn before, and it passed right on through! That was when she was a baby, so she really got lucky. These were a little thicker and wider than regular string. But yeah, I'm hopeful at this point.
