It's dumb, that's all anyone needs to understand. You'd do much better to find a good jewelry shop that'll buy your unwanted or broken gold.
You'll probably get more money, you'll get it right then, and you don't have to risk it getting lost in the mail or stolen on the way there/your
check getting lost in the mail or stolen on the way back.

Look up the complaints against these companies.
You send in your gold, they then send you a check for what they think your gold is worth (read the complaints, they always offer people a low sum), if you do not accept the amount they send your stuff back but you have to pay a $15 shipping. |

Yes. You can. They will send you an offer and if you "reject" it, they will send you your jewelry back. I don't know the specifics but I remember
seeing a story on that company on Nightline. You definitely won't get the best deal with them.
