Posts: 1934 (10/26/2009 5:57 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts	How much did it cost? I think my cat has one and I'm debating whether I should take him to the vet or just try to take it out myself. I'm scared to do it because I don't know if I'll be able to do it correctly and get the head all the way out. Would it be worth it to just have the vet do it?

Well shes a cat, so she likes to go outside, its not like we shut her outside against her will, and its not easy to remove them, if you don't have the correct tool to do it you can end up doing more damage by pulling off the body and leaving the head intact. Yes, you are, but she only gets tics if we have forgotten to do it on time and the last month's dose has run out, so shes due it anyway, its not like we are od-ing her on flee repellent.

Uh, you mean your fingers? Because that's certainly the only "tool" I've ever seen owners and vets use to remove ticks.

It was on his leg, and when she went to pull it out, it scurried INTO HIS LEG.

If you dont use one, when you pull it out with your fingers you risk the tick releasing additional saliva or regurgitating its stomach contents into your bite wound, which increases the chances of infection. They look like this: They are designed to remove the tick from underneath, which stops it from regurgitating its stomach, and makes sure the whole thing is removed.

Posts: 2110 (10/26/2009 7:25 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts	Can't you just use a pair of tweezers and pinch as close to the skin as possible? That's what we do. Granted it isn't on a cat, but maybe have someone hold the cat while another person removes it. Seriously it isn't that complicated.
