Do you get a financial aid letter once you get accepted to grad school and fill out the FAFSA? I was accepted, but haven't enrolled yet because I
haven't received anything regarding loans etc. Do I need to send back my acceptance letter first, or do you just not receive a financial aid package at all
once you finish undergrad? I'm confused!

You can get student loans in grad school-did they make an offer like a GTA or research assistantship?

After my GA position paid tuition and all that "financial aid" was called "visa" and "master card"

My school never really sent me loan or financial aid information. They referred me to their online website-so I guess that is sending me stuff

Anyway, to answer the question, if you haven't received anything from the financial aid office, YOU need to contact them ASAP. And grad students don't get pell grants, so I hope you're not expecting them! |

Unless I'm mistaken, you can't get any sort of grants for grad school. Scholarships and loans are the only options. There's no such thing as
"need-based aid" when you're getting a masters, right?
I'm getting ready to start grad school... |

I think it is a gov't grant given to low income students. But it is only for undergraduate.

The Pell grant is a federal grant for low income undergraduate students. For the poorest students, it's worth $5350 for the academic year.

So it's program specific, I guess?

The grants they have available in my degree are extremely difficult to get and based on merit-like, you get a research grant if you somehow have this
absolutely brilliant idea that someone decides to fund. IT isn't based on need though so perhaps those are two different things even if they are both
called grants.

Pell grants are essentially free government money because you don't have to pay it back. While I was in school for my undergrad, my mother was in school as
well to be a respiratory therapist, so her income was like NOTHING. Because of that, I got $4,750 a year in pell grants. Boy, do I miss those days...

P5 Teacher RN wrote:Well, technically, any aid someone received based on the FAFSA is "need-based." They take your financial information to see what you're eligible for, right? If you/your parents make too much then the need isn't there (based on the FAFSA, not necessarily what I believe). So, if you fill out the FAFSA, the loans that are offered and available as a grad student are still need-based. I'm sure if someone has a high income, they're offered less in loans because FAFSA says they should be able to put more toward their education. |

That's right, talksalot. I didn't know any other way to refer to it.

The graduate school should
have provided you with information regarding the financial aid process when you requested an application. But I'm baffled why you would apply to grad
school without fully understanding the financial costs/aid associated with it.
