If I'm reading a book online, do I cite the book itself, or the website that I'm reading it off of?
Perhaps a dumb question about doing citations...

I do both. Like, this:
Last name, First name. Book Title. City: Publisher, date. Available online: http://www... (accessed November 21, 2009). Or, if you want to choose one, just cite the book and not the website, simply because signing out a book is more effort than reading it online... |

What are you using? APA, MLA, CMS, or CSE?

online book citation goes as following: example: 12. Grimke, Angelina. Appeal to the Christian Woman of the South. New York: New York Anti-Slavery
Society, 1836. http://history.furman.edu/~benson/docs/grimke2.htm.

When I use googlebooks I do not cite the web address, just the page number in the footnotes.
I use Chicago for all my classes and that's worked fine for me. It may depend on the Professor though. One of my Professors doesn't want the web address if it's from an online database (like JSTOR) either. |
